Port Said has always been a place where things arrive and mix. Ships from everywhere stopped here, and with them came languages, foods, architecture, and habits. People who grew up in the city learn early that nothing belongs to only one culture. A building can hold three centuries of influence, and a street can sound like five countries.
Seif El-Deen Medhat grew up inside that mix. In 2020, he started Shop Seif with a simple question: what if the things we put in our homes carried the same depth as the places we come from?
How a design is born
We do not start with a trend or a color. We start with a line. We study how a single line changes the way a person feels in a room: whether it calms, stretches, or protects the space. Then we go out and draw what we find. A seashell on the shore. The shape of an old building. The worn edge of a doorway. Those sketches are slowly reshaped into patterns, and those patterns become wallpaper, rugs, fabrics, and tapestries.
Three collections, three chapters
Cassata (2020): organic forms, architectural silhouettes, and heritage patterns. Our first collection, and the one that set our direction.
Eternity (2022): abstract imprints that explore memory, perception, and how everything is connected. Patterns such as Bark, Fluke, and Fractal each have a short story of their own.
Zilal Al-Madi (2024): textures that look worn by time, inspired by heritage and the beauty of age.
How a Shop Seif piece is made
Every order follows the same careful path. Nothing is rushed, because nothing can be undone once it is made.
1. Design. The design begins as a drawing, sized and adjusted to your space.
2. Sample. Before anything is produced, you see either a sample or yarn colors so you can judge color, texture, and scale in your own light. Colors look different on screen than in a room, and a sample removes the guesswork.
3. Approval. You confirm the final design, colors, and measurements. This is the point where changes are free. Once production starts, the order is yours and the piece is made for no one else.
4. Making. Made in the finest materials for each piece, from imported wallpaper paper to viscose silk and wool, and finished by hand to your specification.
5. Inspection. Each piece is inspected before it leaves us.
6. Delivery. We pack every piece to arrive in perfect condition and ship it across Egypt and the region. For wallpaper, we recommend professional installation, and we can coordinate it for you.
Timing. Hand craft takes time, and we will always confirm a timeline in writing before you pay anything beyond your deposit.

To find his answers, he looks around him. He sketches seashells, buildings, and the details that most people walk past. Then he works those drawings into patterns, again and again, until they carry the feeling he was after. A single design can take weeks or months to complete.
